Chris Gurrie specializes in professional presentations, audience connection, and conducts social science research related to applied communication, organizational communication and integrated marketing, teaching and first year studies, and leadership.

Community: Gurrie is an active volunteer for the Golden Retriever Rescue of Mid-Florida and various support levels of Equality Florida and TGLIFF.
Research Activity
Gurrie works in two scholarly areas related to his background, experience and interests. The first is social science and empirical study related to applied and varying communication platforms. In 2018 he and his coauthors contributed a chapter toÌýInternational Communication Association Theme Book: Climate on Campus—Intersectional Interventions in Contemporary Struggles. In 2017 Gurrie and his colleague, Brandy Fair, published their textbookÌýBusiness Communication in a Technological World. One of his research articles was named "Top Paper" at the National Communication Association in 2016 for research in professor/audience/student connection during presentations. Gurrie and his research/author team made 12 appearances at NCA in 2018.
The second area of scholarly activity is performative works related to speech and storytelling. Gurrie's 2014 sabbatical resulted in an autoethnographic one-man performance, and his studies at the Fines Arts Work Center have resulted in several spoken-word pieces including "The 49," a piece about Pulse Nightclub he performed at ÂÌÅ«Ì컨°å and will be re-working at a forthcoming conference.
Internal to ÂÌÅ«Ì컨°å Gurrie has earned three Learning Enrichment Grants, two CIEE faculty grants, a Delo (now Rise) grant; and the Outstanding Contribution to Student Life Award (now Linda Devine Award).Ìý
External to ÂÌÅ«Ì컨°å Gurrie was the 2011 Florida Communication Association "Teacher of the Year," and the 2016 Florida Communication Association "Researcher of the Year."
