Career Specialties

Joseph Scarce, a doctoral candidate, is a registered board-certified art therapist, a registered mental health counselor intern, and a marriage and family intern with the state of Florida. Scarce's research focuses on the art therapists' experience making art with clients. Scarce has worked with many populations providing art therapy including adult and children psychiatric, medical hospitals, teen residential treatment centers, foster care placement homes, assisted living facilities, adult substance abuse populations and families in community mental health settings.

Professional and Community Activities

Scarce is the advisor to ÂÌÅ«Ì컨°å Healing Arts club and has provided opportunities for art therapy students to become involved in the therapeutic arts and wellness for ÂÌÅ«Ì컨°å campus wide events and to the surrounding Tampa Bay community. Some of these events and exhibitions include the following:

  • ÂÌÅ«Ì컨°å Energii Festival arts and wellness creative expression for ÂÌÅ«Ì컨°å students
  • Hillsborough County Spring Break Camp for children with developmental delays through the Scarfone/Hartley Gallery
  • The Florida Art Therapy Association and Art2Action Symposium focusing on arts in the military
  • PARC: Providing Advocacy and Recognizing Disabilities, the Florida Imagined Exhibition
