Foundation Waiver Requirements

The foundation classes are designed to prepare students with the fundamentals of business. All full-time and part-time MBA students must meet the foundation requirements prior to taking any core courses.听

  • Students who have a four-year baccalaureate degree in business or economics from an AACSB-accredited school (or an equivalent school as determined by the Business Graduate Curriculum Committee), may meet this requirement by having earned a grade of 鈥淏鈥 or higher in the following undergraduate business classes: 听financial accounting, managerial accounting, financial management, microeconomics, macroeconomics, business statistics I(1)听and II(2), principles of management and marketing management. These classes must have been completed within the past seven years.
  • Students with a baccalaureate degree in business or economics from an AACSB-accredited school who are not automatically waived from foundation classes based on undergraduate coursework but who have previously taken an equivalent course may demonstrate competency in a foundation subject by passing a departmental waiver exam.
  • Students who do not have a baccalaureate degree in business or economics from an AACSB-accredited school may take the departmental exam if they have previously taken an equivalent course within the past seven years.
  • Students who possess a four-year business degree from a non-AACSB-accredited school may also request waiver of a foundation course without examination. In order to be considered for a waiver of a foundation course without examination, the following will be needed:
    1. The student must be able to provide a course syllabus for at least two courses taken in the discipline.
    2. The student must also indicate the textbook used for the course and provide a table of contents if possible.
    3. At least one course must have been completed at a more advanced level than the foundation course being considered for waiver.
    4. All courses completed in the discipline must have been completed with a grade of 鈥淏鈥 or better.
    5. All courses must have been completed within the last seven years.
  • Waiver exams must be taken prior to the end of the first term in the program.
  • Departmental waiver exams are free of charge.

Students who have earned a three-year undergraduate degree from an international institution are not eligible for foundation course waivers.
