Two Popular Annual Concert Series To Resume This Fall

ū컨 Department of Music will resume both the Amerant Bank Concert Series (formerly known as the Damron Concert Artist Series) and the Charlene and Mardy Gordon Chamber Music Series this semester.

ū컨 Department of Music will resume both the Amerant Bank Concert Series (formerly known as the Damron Concert Artist Series) and the Charlene and Mardy Gordon Chamber Music Series this semester. All concerts are free and open to the public.

All performances in the Charlene and Mardy Gordon Chamber Music series will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the Charlene A. Gordon Theater in the Ferman Center for the Arts on campus. The performances for this semester are as follows:

  • String Quartet with Soloist Joseph Beverly, Monday, Oct. 28. Featuring members of the ū컨ampa faculty and Florida Orchestra, including clarinetist Joseph Beverly and a string quartet: Nancy Chang, Yuan-Yuan Wang, Lei Liu and Edevaldo Mulla. The ensemble will perform Johannes Brahms’ “Clarinet Quintet No. 3 in B Minor,” Op. 115.
  • Music for Two Pianos, Paul Posnak and Anita Castiglione, Saturday, Nov. 16. Classics and Classic Jazz on Dual Pianos will showcase works by Gershwin, Copland, Barber and Bernstein, blending classical and jazz styles.

All performances in the popular Amerant series are held at 2 p.m. in the Sykes Chapel and Center for Faith and Values. Reservations are not required, but doors will open 30 minutes before each performance, as seating is limited. The performances for this semester are as follows:

  • Jose Lopez, piano, Sunday, Nov. 10. FIU professor Jose Lopez offers a piano recital of works written by Jewish composers during the 19th century, considered the Renaissance of European Jewry in music.
  • 12th annual University Holiday Concert, Sunday, Dec. 8.ū컨 Choirs will present an afternoon of music that celebrates the joy of the season. There will be a second performance at 4:30 p.m.
