How can I apply for an Army ROTC scholarship?
Once you complete your junior year of high school, you can get a head start on your future by applying for the ROTC National Scholarship (a four-year scholarship) at a participating school. Applications open June 12 of every year for rising seniors. To get started on your scholarship application,ÌýÌýas the first step.
Eligibility/Requirements
- Be a United States citizen
- Currently in or be eligible for enlistment into the Army National Guard or Army Reserve
- Must not reach 31st birthday by Dec. 31 of the year in which they will graduate from college and receive their commission
- Initiate internet application between June 12 and Jan. 10
- Submit transcript covering at least six semesters (3 years) of high school
- Submit ACT/SAT scores
- Submit results of physical fitness assessment
- Conduct an in-person interview with a professor of military science
- Ability to pass the Army physical fitness test within first semester
- Meet Army regulation 600-9, height and weight standards
Army ROTC scholarships give students the opportunity to focus on their education without worrying how to pay for it. These scholarships are awarded based on merit and grades, not financial needs. Scholarships include full tuition, allowances for books and fees, and monthly stipends to assist with living expenses. Army ROTC grants more than $270 million in scholarships to over 13,000 students each year.

The three- and four-year scholarship is intended for those college and high school students who have four years of undergraduate education remaining before graduation.Ìý

The scholarship covers full tuition, provides $1,200/year for books, and $420/month of the school year in spending money.

These scholarships are highly competitive and applicants who are accepted generally have cumulative GPA's greater than 3.5, test scores in the 24+ ACT and 1250+ SAT range. They are typically involved in multiple extra-curricular activities both in school and outside of school. A physically fit and academically well-rounded high school student should excel in this program.

Campus-based scholarships are awarded to enrolled ROTC cadets who compete for the opportunity. They are based on college GPA, physical fitness scores and demonstrated leadership abilities, in addition to all usual ROTC requirements. Cadets are interviewed and placed on an order of merit list for available funds, which range from two- to three-and-a-half years’ worth of benefits.

Housing and Meals:ÌýThe scholarship pays $5,000 to the student every semester and provides $1,200/year for books and a stipend of $420/month. The awardee is responsible for paying all tuition and fees.
The two-year scholarship is intended for those students who have two years of undergraduate or graduate education remaining before graduation. Also, students applying for the two-year scholarship must have either completed the ROTC Basic Course (MS I and MS II courses), three or four years of Junior ROTC or they must have prior military service (basic training qualified).

The Guaranteed Reserve Forces Duty Scholarship program (also known as GRFD) is designed for students/cadets with maximum two years remaining on their undergraduate or graduate degree and are interested in obtaining a commission in the United States Army National Guard (ARNG) or Reserves (USAR).

Interested students must be willing to enlist in the ARNG or USAR. If the student is currently enlisted in the ARNG or USAR, we will work with their current command to have them converted to a cadet status. Recipients of this scholarship must also agree to serve in the Army National Guard or Army Reserve after commissioning for a period of not less than eight years.
The Dedicated National Guard Scholarship program is designed for students/cadets with maximum three years remaining on their undergraduate or graduate degree and are interested in obtaining a commission in the United States Army National Guard (ARNG) or Army Reserve by allowing them to receive an early guarantee for such an assignment.
